物質や物質現象をそれらの構造・特性・作用を5つの相に例えることによって5つのカテゴ

リーに分類すること (classificationof material things and phe n o mena into fi ve

categories by comparing their structures， properties and actions wi th the fi ve phases)

とされているが、あくまで相対論の立場を忘れてはいけない。

1) ( 栂)生 engendering;generating

各々の相とその関連する現象が 他の連続する相を生じさせる、あるいは、産生する関係

(the relationship in which each phase and its associated pheno mena give rise to or

promote a nother s 巴q uentialphase)

① 木生火 wood e ngenders fire ; wood g 巴neratingfire

木の性質から火の性質が生じる (thecategory of wood ge nerates or promotes the

category of fire)。肝欝化火や肝火旺が相当する。木気が高ぶってくると熱化し火

の性質に変わる。

② 火生土 fire e ngenders earth ; fire generating earth

火の性質から土の性質が生じる (thecateg ory of fire generates or prom otes the

category of earth)。気の生成には、まず陽気が必要で、陽熱(火)があって初めて気

を育むことができる。

③ 土生金 earth engenders meta1 ; earth generating meta1

土の性質から金の性質が生じる (thecategory of earth generates or promotes the

category of meta1)。気が旺盛になると、そこから血や津液が化生し(気という無形

から有形へ変化が起こり)、全身にめぐることができる。

④ 金生水 meta1 engenders water ; metal generating water

金の性質から水の性質が生じる (thecategory of meta1 generates or promotes

thecategory of water)。気血津液が全身をめぐる過程で、不要物は対外に排出され

る(汗、小便、大使など)。

⑤ 水生木 water engenders wood ; water generating wood

水の性質から木の性質が生じる (thecategory of water generates or promotes the

category of wood)。水がないと木が伸びることができない。腎の安定あってはじめ

て肝気・肝血が協調して疏世でき、全身の気機をのびやかにすることができる。

2 ) ( 相) 克 restraining

お互いの相とその関連する現象が他の相を制限・阻止・調整する関係(there1ationship

in which each phase and its associated phenomena restrict/check/contro1 another

phase)。相生や相克は実際には生理的反応・生理的作用の範轄である。陰陽の消長平衡

に関わる性質と言えるだろう。

① 木克土 woodrestrains earth ; wood contro11ing earth

木の性質は土の性質を制限する (thecategory of wood restricts or checks the

category of earth)。

② 火克金 fire restrains meta1 ; fire controlling meta1

火の性質は金の性質を制限する (thecategory of fire restricts or checks the

cat巴goryof metal)。

③ 土克水 earth restrains water ; earth controlling water

土の性質は水の性質を制限する (thecategory of earth restricts or checks the

category of water)。

④ 水克火 water restrains fire ; water contro11ing fire

水の性質が火の性質を制限する (thecategory of water restricts or checks the

category of fire)。

⑤ 金克木 meta1 restrains wood ; meta1 contro11ing wood

金の性質が木の性質を制限する (thecategory of meta1 restricts or checks the

category of wood， a1so ca11ed)。
